RUNNING

I’m pretty sure we have all seen the movie Forrest Gump. There is the infamous scene where some school boys are chasing after Forrest. His companion Jenny is yelling behind him, “RUN FORREST RUN.” He runs and runs and runs until he gets home which is like his safe haven.

Although, we may not physically run like Forrest Gump does in the movie, it is kind of second nature for humans to run when trouble comes. The reason that I hear most often when someone disappears from church several Sundays in a row is that they are going through things or they are experiencing trouble in their lives. Although I may not be absent from church services, I used to “check out on God.” When things started to go the wrong way in my life, I would try to run back to my old life. Satan likes to play tricks on our minds and tell us that things were FINE in our life BEFORE we started living for God and now life is nothing but turmoil. He likes to get us to believe that when we were in the world, the sun was ALWAYS shining and now it NEVER stops raining. He tries to give us an excuse to run back to the life of sin. Run back to things that used to comfort us, whether it be alcohol or drugs or even a sexual relationship.
